R.T.W’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, “A World Without Men” is a concept based solely on a parallel utopia/reality of a world in which men no longer exist. The initial research undertaken focused on women, during both the First and Second World War, and how traditional gender roles began to change in society. Taking inspiration from authentic workwear and industrial structures the research gathered influenced the oversized masculine silhouettes combined with delicate textures to illustrate subtle but beautiful hints of femininity throughout the collection. The combination of thick wools, silks and denims add depth to the designs, with ink dyed chiffons to create a unique print. Industrial touches were applied with thick leather fastenings and chunky metal zippers. R.T.W wants the collection to promote and empower the female wearer.
